'I feel like I’m letting him down,' Luka Doncic opens up as Kyrie Irving’s 40-point show out goes to vain against Clippers in Game 4
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The Mavericks duo gave their everything in game 4 but fell short in front of the veterans of the Los Angeles Clippers. Kyrie Irving took the responsibility on his shoulders as he dropped a stunning 40-point performance, which was not enough for the Mavs to take a 3-1 lead. The second piece of the duo, Luka Doncic could not help but feel guilty for not doing justice to Irving’s explosive performance.

Despite scoring a triple-double, Luka Doncic was shooting poorly in the first half against the Clippers. Kyrie Irving stepped up and dropped the game-high 40 points. Doncic acknowledged his comparatively weak offensive performance in the press conference.

I just got to help him more. I feel like I’m letting him down, so I got to be there, I got to help him more. He’s giving everything he has and he’s been amazing for us the whole series Luka Doncic at the pot-game press conference

The Dallas Mavericks duo has been on a similar par throughout the series. The team also successfully defeated the Big 4 of the Los Angeles Clippers in the previous game to take a 2-1 lead. Certainly, the Mavericks perform better when both players contribute equally to the team’s score.

As the Clippers outscored the Mavericks 39-16 to start the game, the Mavs came right back up to cut down the lead to four points in the third quarter credited to Irving. However, Irving’s outing could not get the team to the finish line as they lost by merely five points. Doncic’s help would have been the key in defeating the short-handed Clippers.

Kyrie Irving praised Luka Doncic despite the star’s poor shooting night

Once in a while every good player faces a slump in a game. Unfortunately, for Doncic it came during a critical playoff game. The star has been incredible throughout the season as he is almost averaging in triple-doubles. Doncic’s teammate, Irving took the opportunity to make a note of that after the game 4 loss.

Uncle Drew acknowledged the star’s consecutive dominating performances in the series and also mentioned the mental fatigue Doncic must be facing.

I know he wants to make a bigger impact than what he’s doing now even though he’s almost averaging a triple-double… He’s a young kid in the playoffs going against a team that beat him twice. There’s a little bit of a mental fatigue there Kyrie Irving at the post game presser

Doncic’s performance in the series has been the best in his team. He has been amazing in the first round considering his playoff experience than Irving’s. Irving believes that the MVP candidate will surely come out strong in the next games.
