Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has offered a positive fitness update after being forced off against Fulham on Sunday. The Citizens hope to avoid another injury blow in the final weeks of the Premier League title race.
Manchester City came into their game against Fulham on the back of a six-game winning streak in the Premier League. The Citizens showed no signs of slowing down as they crushed their hosts 4-0 with another incredible attacking display.
In their last four games, City have scored 15 goals and conceded only once, continuing their march toward the Premier League trophy. However, their victory over Fulham was tainted by an injury setback for Ake, who limped off the pitch with an apparent foot injury only 22 minutes into the fixture.
On Sunday, the player took to Instagram to respond to the messages that he received after his forced substitution against Fulham. The defender wrote: “Top performance from the team. Thank you for the wishes, I’ll be good.”
With Ake suggesting that he has avoided a serious injury, he might be able to play a part in City’s final two games of the campaign. The Citizens will take on Tottenham on Tuesday before hosting West Ham five days later.
Ake remains the only injury concern for Man City, who faced Fulham with a full squad. Avoiding injuries and maintaining the team’s overall fitness has played a key role in the club’s push to defend their league title this term.
Speaking in a press conference on Friday, Guardiola praised his side’s medical team, saying: “I don’t know about other clubs, but for many years, we have had an incredible medical department with physios, with a lot of work.
“It is true that we were fortunate in the last season to have few injuries.”
